Shopify product structured data: what to check
Product structured data (JSON-LD) describes your product, price and stock in a format search engines can read. Most Shopify themes output some of it, but not always all of it.
Fields to look for
| Field | Why |
|---|---|
name | The product name. |
image | At least one product image URL. |
offers.price and offers.priceCurrency | Price and currency, for price display in search results. |
offers.availability | In stock or out of stock. |
description, sku, brand, gtin | Recommended. They help match your product to searches. |
Google's Product documentation lists the required and recommended properties for product snippets and merchant listings. Check it for the current rules.
How to test
- Paste a product URL into Google's Rich Results Test.
- Check for errors and missing recommended fields.
- Check variants: if the price shown on the page changes by variant, the structured data should still show a valid price.
Common gaps
- Two different Product blocks: one from the theme and one from an app, with different prices.
- Missing
priceCurrencyoravailability. - No Organization or BreadcrumbList data on the home and collection pages.
